I think one of the greatest fears people have about reassessing their responses via mindfulness training is that they are somehow losing a part of themselves. If I have been an angry cynic for 30 years, what will happen to me if and when I revalue my response to myself and my world? The truth is this angry cynic has literally been running on cerebral autopilot for decades. Real selfhood as a fluid essence requires consciousness and thoughtfulness and free will. The beauty of you is that you can never step in the same river of yourself twice when you are active and engaged with your own consciousness.
